What We Are Reading
Here are a few of the best business oriented books I read in the last few months:
Tale of greed for a man wealthier than he could ever have imagined and the relentless pursuit of law enforcement to bring him down. It is also a cautionary tale for investors as, in many ways, this is what we are all competing against. These institutional funds have more info and reach than any of us will ever have. Assuming we will be able to out hustle them in the investment arena is a pipe dream. Incidentally, the main character profiled in this book is also the character that Showtime's "Billions" protagonist Bobby Axelrod is largely based.
I have been interested in reading this for a few years and finally did so last fall. While not all of the advice is necessarily directly relevant to a small business, the thought processes of this entrepreneur are cogently laid out in the book and provide insight on the growth and stresses of being an owner in a rapidly growing market.
Loved and despised, Musk is a larger than life business owner who has faced insurmountable odds in pushing forward his goal of space exploration and green auto manufacturing. This book illustrates his passion for achieving something beyond wealth and portrays a man who is not afraid to take on the establishment to meet his objectives. Given his recent guffaws and pending troubles with the SEC, this is a look inside Musk's polarizing persona.
